Eastern India’s premier hill station in the Himalayan mountain range, Darjeeling is famed as the birthplace of Indian tea plantation culture; neighbouring Sikkim is famous for its Buddhist monasteries. Take this peaceful getaway and see some of the most majestic landscapes in the world!

Day 1: Disembark Kolkata and Fly to Bagdogra for Darjeeling

Morning flight to Bagdogra and drive to Darjeeling and transfer to Hotel Mayfair. Relax the rest of the day.

Days 2 And 3: Darjeeling

Sightseeing in Darjeeling begins with Tiger Hill from which you can see the Himalayan Range including Mount Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest etc. There is also Ghoom one of the oldest in the area with its gigantic Buddha. Take a ride on the toy train on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, opened in 1881 and now a World Heritage Site. Visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute headed first by Tenzing Norgay who climbed Mt. Everest with Edmund Hilary. There is also Himalayan Zoological Park to see the snow leopard, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan yak, Himalayan black bear and several varieties of birds. End the day’s outing with a visit to the Tibetan Self- Help Centre run by refugees to preserve their handicrafts such as Tibetan carpets, leather work, paintings and wooden work etc.

Day 4: Darjeeling to Gangtok

After breakfast drive to Gangtok, arrive and transfer to hotel.  Sikkim is a small and remote India State that until 1975 was an independent Buddhist kingdom on the main trade route from India to Tibet.  The hill station of Gangtok, once Sikkim’s capital, is set on a ridge at 5600 ft and surrounded by terraced hillsides.

Day 5: Gangtok

After breakfast depart for visit to Rumtek Monastery, set on a hilltop, is a seat of the Karma Kagyu or Black Hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism, which was founded during the 12th century in Tibet.  It is large and wealthy monastic complex that includes the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute of Buddhist Studies, where monks spend a minimum of nine years studying here, often followed by a three-year period of isolated meditation.  After lunch, visit Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, a museum with fascinating collection of Buddhist and Tibetan cultural artefacts.

Day 6: Gangtok to Bagdogra and Fly to Kolkata

After breakfast, drive to Bagdogra airport and take the flight to Kolkata.
