Kerala is one of India’s smallest states but possess immense natural beauty and cultural richness. Over time, it has been settled by tribal groups, Gujarati Jains, early Christians, trading Jews and Arabs as well as the Portuguese, Dutch and the British. Enjoy its rich diversity, gorgeous riverine landscapes and intriguing histories!

Day 1: Disembark Ship and Fly to Kochi

Early morning disembark the ship and transfer to Kolkata airport for flight to Kochi (connecting via Chennai or Mumbai). Lunch would be either packed from the ship or in-flight meal onboard airline. Arrive Kochi in the afternoon and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at hotel Taj Malabar or similar.

Day 2: Kochi

After breakfast at the hotel explore Fort Kochi strolling along the promenade and see the cantilevered Chinese Fishing Nets, which are fixed land installations used for an unusual form of fishing. Visit the Mattancherry Palace, built by the Portuguese and presented to the King of Kochi and featuring ancient murals and other exhibits. Walk in the history-filled streets of Jewtown and visit the Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, built by the Malabar Yehudan people and St Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. Lunch at local restaurant. Evening performance of Kathakali, a classical Indian dance-drama noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the playback music and percussion. Overnight at hotel Taj Malabar or similar.

Day 3: Thekkady (Periyar)

Drive to Thekkady to visit the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve. On arrival in Thekkady, check-in at resort and have lunch. Rest of the day is at leisure or you can join the resort’s resident naturalist for a Walking Tour of the village to see recycling of water, solar energy, organic farming and creating paper from waste. Overnight at Spice Village Resort or similar.

Day 4: Periyar

Morning after breakfast enjoy a common boat ride in Periyar Lake and view wildlife inside the Park including herds of wild elephants, deer and bison that come down to drink in the lake. We return to the resort for lunch. Thereafter we visit a spice plantation. Overnight at Spice Village Resort or similar.

Day 5: Kumarakom

Drive to Kumarakom and check-in at resort and have lunch. Rest of the day is at lesiure. Enjoy a Sunset Cruise. Overnight at Coconut Lagoon Resort or similar.

Day 6: Leisure At Kumarakom

Day at leisure at the resort with all meals included. Activities at the resort include, yoga, birding, butterfly garden, Indian music and demonstration of Kalaripayattu, a martial art. Overnight at Coconut Lagoon Resort or similar.

Day 7: Sail Kumarakom To Alleppey

Breakfast at the hotel and morning is free. Midday, board a kettuvallam, a boat unique to the Kerala with a thatched roof over a wooden hull. Till recently, it was used to transport rice, spice and other commodities in coastal Kerala. Cruise the backwaters through various quaint villages towards Alleppey. Overnight aboard the houseboat.

Day 8: Kochi And Departure

After an early breakfast onboard the houseboat, disembark at Alleppey and drive to Kochi airport for onward flight.
