Day 1: Saturday Embark Maharajas’ Express at Delhi

Welcome, register and board the train. Enjoy traditional welcome and dinner.

Day 2: Sunday Jaipur

After breakfast, visit to Amber Fort, one of the most resplendent fortresses in Rajasthan and the erstwhile palace of the maharajas of Jaipur before the capital was shifted to City Palace, Jaipur. Lunch at an exclusive venue and return to train. After lunch, enjoy optional activities such as a spa treatment, private shopping tour or a visit to the City Palace Museum and Jantar Mantar. Dinner on board.

Day 3: Monday Ranthambore and Fatehpur Sikri

A game drive into Ranthambore National Park marks the beginning of the day’s adventure. This tiger reserve in India offers the highest probability of spotting the elusive cats in their natural habitat. Return to the train for lunch. Travel to World Heritage Site of Fatehpur Sikri for a tour of the famous Mughal ghost palace. Dinner on board.

Day 4: Tuesday Agra and Gwalior

Early morning visit to the famous Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. An unforgettable champagne breakfast at the Taj Khema overlooking the Taj is the highlight of the day. Continue to Gwalior, aboard the Maharajas’ Express. Arriving at the gorgeous city of Gwalior and explore the Fort, Saas Bahu temples and Jain rock-cut caves. Also visit the Jai Vilas Palace Museum followed by high tea at the Jai Vilas Palace compound. Dinner on board.

Day 5: Wednesday Khajuraho

Breakfast and lunch on board as the train travel to Khajuraho. Afternoon visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho and its fabulous group of medieval temples. Opt for the Dances of India show or a spa treatment at a hotel in the evening. Dinner on board.

Day 6: Thursday Varanasi

Arrive in the morning at Varanasi, the most holy city situated on the banks of the river Ganga, sacred to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Muslims. Proceed to visit the Silk Weaving Center where Varanasi’s famous silks are woven followed by lunch at the Taj Gateway. Afternoon visit to nearby Sarnath, where at the Deer Park, Gautama Buddha delivered his first sermon on the Dharma. See the ruins of monasteries, built more that 2000 years ago, the Dhamok Stupa, the Dharmaraji Ka Stupa and the famous Ashokan polished sandstone pillar and other important Buddhist art at the archaeological museum. After Sarnath, enjoy boat ride on the Ganges to witness evening prayers to the river. Dinner on board.

Day 7: Friday Lucknow

After breakfast, visit Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza and Residency. A royal Awadhi lunch at the Vivanta by Taj. Enjoy dinner and an “Indian Evening” on board.

Day 8: Saturday Disembark at Delhi

After breakfast, disembark and bid farewell to Maharajas’ Express.
